Guided snorkel tour

An operator in Kauai does guided snorkel tours and looks for sea turtles! You'll go to two different snorkel sites. They provide all the gear, and give you information about the reefs and the fish. It's a shore based half day snorkel tour led by expert guides. There is pick-up provided at most hotels. A video is taken of your snorkel tour, which can be viewed in the van on the way back. Drinks and snacks are included.

 

 

 

 

4X4 MOUNTAIN - BACKROADS ADVENTURE

Explore the beautiful, mountainous interior of Kauai with knowledgeable, local guides.  You will enjoy the beautiful Waimea Canyon, Kokee State Park and Kalalau lookout.  Clear days provide spectaular panoramams, while overcast days offer the mystical beauty of the rain forest.  You will ride in a air conditioned 4X4 van, travel former cane roads to areas of incredible beauty that have been off limits to all but cane workers for years.  You will learn about the history some of Kauai's history as you meander along the scenic back roads past reservoirs and fields that now grow a wide variety of crops, all the way up to Kilohana Crater.  From the top of the crater you will have a breathtaking 360 degree panorama.   You will ride through Old Koloa Town, Hawaii's first plantation settlement, past the old mill and to the rugged coastline of Maha'ulepu. Then you take the tunnel through the mountain back to Lihue.  They serve a delicious deli style lunch at a picnic area.  This is a one of a kind tour.  Check in time is 8:45am and the return is approx. 5:00 pm.  Pick up at some hotels can be arranged.  The price is $86.40 for adults, and $60.00 for children 12 and under.

Hidden Hanalei Hike

Discover a part of Kauai that is rarely ever seen. Hike behind locked gates, into the hills behind historic Hanalei town. Learn about the flora and history of the surrounding area as you hike towards majestic Mt. Namolokama and her everflowing waterfalls. Arrive at a lookout point which offers an up close view of the many waterfalls on one side; and a spectacular view of Hanalei Bay and the Pacific Ocean on the other. Here you relax, take some pictures, and enjoy a healthy snack as you take in the awesome beauty of this magical paradise. This hike is rated as moderate and lasts about 3 hours.

Waterfall Hike

This is a 4 hour loop trail rated as moderate. Start by hiking to the ranch lookout point where a breathtaking 360 degree view awaits you. Lush mountains; crystal blue ocean - this lookout offers one of the most spectacular views of the entire North Shore available no where else. Trekking onward, a short hike through pasturelands leads you into a lush, tripical paradise. Learn about the native and introduced plants as you descend to a beautiful cascading 100 ft. waterfall. Here you will swim, take pictures under the falls, relax and enjoy a healthy snack. 

 

Horseback Riding

There are a few different companies that offer horseback riding. Hawaii state law prohibits horseback riding on the beach. But a few offer rides to the beach. There are age and weight restrictions which vary with each company.

North Shore Riding

A 4 hour tour to a 100 ft. waterfall can be yours to enjoy! It is on privately owned land, so not just anyone can access it. You'll ride across beautiful pastures with outstanding ocean and mountain views of Hanalei. At a certain point you will tie up the horses and proceed down a short steep hike to the foot of Kalihiwai Falls. It is a fern lined waterfall plunging into a mountain pool where you can enjoy a cool brisk swim. You will also enjoy a delicious picnic lunch. The whole adventure takes approximately  4 hours.

Anini Bluff and Beach Ride

This is a spectacular adventure to Anini beach. You will ride along the bluff to the beach along the extraordinary scenic vistas overlooking Anini Beach. Adventure across lush green pasture land and meander along the bluffs of the north shore. Here you'll follow the trail toward the beach and tie-off the horses nearby. A short stroll takes you past the polo fields and to the beach for a light snack and a relaxing swim. This lasts approx. 3 hrs.

Country ride


Panoramic Paniolo Country Ride

Enjoy a wonderful hour and a half of horseback riding across ranch lands taking in spectacular panoramic views of the magnificent Hanalei Mountains. Top this off with a splendid vista of Anini Beach and Reef. Beyond you will see the legendary Bali Hai in the distance. 

There is another privately owned ranch on the north shore that offers rides on 400 acres of lush jungle. A botanical treasure among winding streams. The ranch features a multitude of rare palms and other exotic fauna including wild orchids and a bounty of wild guavas, which await sampling when in season. This ranch is nestled into the interior high valley of Kalihiwai Ridge.

Swim and Picnic Ride

This is a wonderful ride through the ranch with an experienced guide. They will point out the rare and exotic plants along the way, and pluck ripe fruit in season. You will ride to a secluded mountain pool to swim, relax, and ride some more. There is a deli picnic lunch served with beverages included. approx. 3 hrs.

Hawaiian Discovery Ride

This ride is approx. 2 hrs. riding among winding streams, lush foliage, wild orchids, and guavas. View breath-taking mountain vistas. Beverages supplied. 

East Shore Rides
Moving over to the east side of the island there are 2 other companies offering great rides.

Trail Rides

These rides allow you to trot and canter the horses. You are required to wear a helmet and boots. (provided) There are also arena lessons by appointment for ages 2 and up.


Fast Half Ride

An active ride, including trotting and cantering. There are panoramic ocean and mountain views with many photo opportunities, including untouched deep lush valleys and fern covered canyons. Edible and medicinal plants are highlighted. 3 hrs.

The Wow Ride

A fast pace brings you up into the mountains where looking around you continually say WOW!! Each view is more amazing than the last. Ride on ancient lava flows and see ferns from dinosaur times. A stretch break with a snack is included so that the lush beauty can be savored. This ride includes trotting and cantering. 5 hrs. 

All Day Adventure Ride

An all day adventure for the spirit and the spirited. Ride across knife passes high in the mountains with unspoiled views of the interior of Kauai. Spectacular sights await you! Extra film is a must for this ride. Lunch is served at a stream with a cool swim, weather permitting. This ride includes trotting and cantering. 8 hrs.

Private Trail Rides

A ride for the less experienced or those desiring more intimacy. A longer lesson in the arena before venturing on the trail is incorporated for those who have not ridden before. Perfect for honeymooners, this allows for many photo opportunities. Views of the ocean and mountains abound. 

There is another company on the east side that specializes in private rides for all levels of experience and ages. If you feel you can and want to, you can canter and run the horses.

One Hour Ride

This ride will introduce you to the native monkeypod trees and lovely tree covered lanes that offer many vistas of Makaleha, Waialeale, and Kaken mountain peaks.

Two Hour Ride

This is the most preferred trip because it offers the best overall views of the east side of the island. Enjoy the stories of the sugar industry and the ditches that put Kauai on the map as the Garden Isle.

Three Hour Ride

This is for the hardy and experienced rider that wants to travel to the remotest areas on Kauai.

South Side Rides

These rides take place on the sunny south side in Poipu. These trips are on a working cattle ranch like the ones on the north side.

Beach Breakfast Ride

Small groups take a early morning ride to the beach. You will enjoy a continental breakfast on the beach, and have time to go beach combing. 3 hrs.

Hidden Beach Ride

This takes you through the Mahaulepu area, popular to windsurfers and local fisherman. Beautiful ocean views. 2 hrs.

Beach, Swim and Picnic Ride

Ride to the beach for a invigorating swim and a picnic deli lunch. 3-1/2 hrs

Windsurfing Lessons

The beginning stages on the right equipment, make this a easy sport to learn! Guaranteed you will be up and sailing in your first lesson! These lessons take place at Anini Beach on the north shore. Anini is the perfect place to learn. There is a outer reef that protects the inner sandy lagoon. There is a nice steady tradewind blowing most of the time. They have a simulator on the beach, which is a pivoting platform with a sail attached to it. You learn everything you need to know before you ever touch the water. People of all ages will enjoy this. Lessons are 3 hrs.

Surfing Lessons

Learn to surf in Hawaii!! Lessons include surfboard, 15 minute land demonstration emphasizing techniques on paddling, standing up catching waves and safety. Spend quality surfing time with experienced instructors. Often times you can have the use of the board for the day. Beginning, intermediate and advanced lessons available. Young kids to older adults all have a great time! 99% success rate!

Scuba Diving

There are many companies offering scuba. You can do beach dives off all the shores of the islands. Depending on the time of year as to where will be best.

You can also do dives off a boat. There are many nice dive sites to choose from.

Dive the Forbidden Island of Niihau

If you are certified, you may want to do an excursion to the forbidden island of Niihau, off Kauai's west coast. This is for the experienced diver only. This trip involves a open ocean channel crossing between islands and the ride home is usually rough going. People with a tendency towards sea sickness should consider taking medication. People with bad backs or physical restrictions should consider diving around Kauai. Divers should be in good physical condition and should be comfortable diving on vertical drop-offs, huge underwater caverns, in possible choppy surface conditions, significant currents, as well as sharing water space with resident sharks. Niihau is exciting, excellent, world class diving, but it is not for everybody due to the conditions and the type of diving. This dive is offered May - Sept. only.

Introductory Dive - No Experience Necessary

This is a two tank boat dive off the south shore of Kauai. It is a very personal, almost hand held experience. You will receive a 1 hour academic lesson followed by a 2 tank boat dive with an instructor. This includes all equipment needed for the dives.

Diving for the Differently Abled

If you have a physical disability, like a spinal cord injury, or MS, ect. you just might fall in love with scuba diving. There is a company that is very experienced with the "differently abled", as they like to refer to it. They have the knowledge and equipment to get you out there diving!!!

Bike Kauai's Waimea Canyon

Downhill Bicycle Rides

This business has been going downhill ever since they started! These rides are in Waimea Canyon on Kauai's west shore. You will zoom down 12 miles of winding road from the rim of the famous Waimea Canyon, (elevation 3500 ft) to the shore of the blue pacific. They will drive you up to the top, and have coffee and muffins. Then you will coast all the way to the bottom. Their not boasting when they say it's all coasting! They will stop along the way at beautiful points of interest for dialog and narrative on diverse topics ranging from history, culture and legends to personal island experience with special emphasis placed on natural history and identification of native plants, birds, and trees. They have state of the art equipment, and wide comfy saddles. A sunrise tour is offered as well as a mid morning ride.

All Terrain Vehicles

These are tours on the south side of Kauai. These are easily controllable, fully automatic 4-wheeled ATV's. It is a culturally rich fun filled experience led by courteous and knowledgeable guides. You will ride through mountain trails, tropical forests, river valleys, and rolling pastures. You also get to ride through a 1/2 mile cane haul tunnel! These are on private land, so it is otherwise inaccessible to the public. There is a 3 hr. tour, 3 times a day. Ages 16 and up.

ATV Waterfall Tour

The ultimate off road experience! 4 to 4-1/2 hours of riding and instruction. Not one but TWO private waterfalls with rope swing and swimming holes! Feast on gourmet sandwiches, cookies and beverages.

Amphibious ATV

This is new! It is a six wheeled, four person amphibious ATV for the kids! (Adults too!) It can accommodate 3 passengers per tour. It does the same tours as the other ATV's. ages 7 and up.

Film and Movie Tours

There's  a company that does a guided narrated tour of Kauai movie locations. Jurassic Park, Raiders of the lost Ark, Honeymoon in Vegas, South Pacific, Outbreak, Blue Hawaii, Donovan's reef, and more... You will watch the actual scenes where they were originally filmed on a in-van monitor in surround sound. Then you will get out of the van, and actually see where the movies were made. Enjoy a great picnic lunch on one of Kauai's most beautiful beaches.

Historical Van Tour of Kauai's East and West Sides

They offer most hotel pick-up in their comfortable 15 passenger van. It is air conditioned, equipped with an A/V system consisting of two televisions and a VCR for the purpose of showing informational film such as hurricane Iniki, Kauai History, Kauai Coffee video and much more. They will take you sightseeing and share island information, history and culture. They will stop for many photo opportunities and visit some of the most interesting stores for shopping for souvenirs, art or gifts. A delicious and hearty deli style lunch is provided at a remote beach with entertainment to include singing and hula dancing with passenger participation!!

Luaus

There are many luaus to choose from in Hawaii. Some of them have a family night, which is one child free with a full paying adult. Children under 5 are free, and there are senior rates. They are similar in that they all have the imu ceremony, a buffett style dinner, and a great hula show. They are on just about all the shores on Kauai, and a few offer a few extras.

On Kauai, there is one on the north shore that has the most spectacular view overlooking Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai ridge. The food is to die for, and there is plenty of it. And if you have a sweet tooth, look out! A whole table of delicacies await you! And the show is fun filled with hula, tahitian, and a fire dance. The whole family will love it.

There is one on the east shore of Kauai, that takes place in a botanical garden. They open the garden a hour before the luau starts, so you can explore. There is a buffett style dinner, and a great show. This one has not only hula, but also a Chinese dragon dance, and a Japanese fan dance. As well as the Tahitian, and Maori fire dance. There is even a little volcano that will go off.

Also on the east shore is a luau who's show has won many awards for their hula show. It is a night you will always remember.
